- James was the son of Zebedee and the brother of John. He worked as a fisherman before Jesus called him and John to follow Him. James became one of the twelve apostles and was present with Peter and John at significant events including the Transfiguration and Jesus' prayer in Gethsemane. Acts records that Herod killed James with the sword.
