In the beginning

God created the heavens, the earth, light, the ordered world, and every form of life.

The northern kingdom of Israel fell to Assyria after persistent covenant rebellion.

Reigns of Uzziah through Hezekiah

Isaiah proclaimed judgment, hope, holiness, restoration, and messianic promise during the reigns of the kings of Judah.

Final decades of the kingdom of Judah

Jeremiah warned Judah of coming judgment, called the nation to repentance, and proclaimed the promise of a new covenant.

About 586 BC

Babylon captured Jerusalem, destroyed the temple, and carried many of Judah’s people into exile.

Daniel and his companions remained faithful to God while serving within the Babylonian and Medo-Persian empires.

About 538 BC

A group of Jewish exiles returned to Jerusalem under Zerubbabel after Cyrus authorised the rebuilding of the temple.

The returned exiles completed the second temple despite opposition and delay.

Ezra returned to Jerusalem and led the people in renewed commitment to God’s law.

Nehemiah organised the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s walls while leading the people through opposition, reform, and covenant renewal.

About 6–4 BC

Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem, fulfilling God’s redemptive promises and entering human history.

Jesus was baptised by John, the Spirit descended upon Him, and the Father testified concerning His Son.

Public ministry of Jesus – Final journey to Jerusalem

Jesus proclaimed the kingdom of God, taught with authority, healed the sick, delivered the oppressed, and called disciples.

Final week before the crucifixion

Jesus entered Jerusalem as crowds welcomed Him with messianic praise.

Passover season, about AD 30–33

Jesus Christ was crucified at Golgotha, giving His life as the sacrifice for sin.

Third day after the crucifixion

Jesus Christ rose bodily from the dead on the third day, defeating death and confirming the hope of salvation.

Forty days after the resurrection

Jesus ascended into heaven after commissioning His disciples to bear witness to Him.

The Holy Spirit filled the disciples, empowering their witness and marking a decisive expansion of the early church.

Early apostolic period

The risen Jesus appeared to Saul on the road to Damascus, transforming the persecutor into a witness and apostle.

Paul and Barnabas were sent from Antioch to proclaim the gospel in Cyprus and regions of Asia Minor.

The apostles and elders met in Jerusalem to address the inclusion of Gentile believers and the question of circumcision.
